LOS ANGELES (AP) LeBron James hit the tying 3-pointer late in regulation. He led a Lakers lineup of three second-year pros and a rookie making his NBA debut to a 142-136 lead with 55 seconds left overtime.

James was then reminded in spectacular fashion that nothing will be easy in this West Coast chapter of his career.

Patty Mills hit a go-ahead jumper with 6.8 seconds left and the San Antonio Spurs kept the Lakers winless with LeBron, rallying from a six-point deficit in the final minute of OT for a wild 143-142 victory Monday night.

Vucevic has 24-12 as Magic upend Celtics

BOSTON (AP) The way things went on the road for the Orlando Magic last season, one of the final two 3-point attempts by Boston probably would have gone in.

But it's a new season and the ball bounced the right way in the closing seconds for Orlando.

TORONTO (AP) A tough Toronto Raptors defense took the sting out of Charlotte's 3-point shooting.

Warriors win 16th straight over Suns

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors got back to their pass-happy ways and coach Steve Kerr could smile again about all those assists, fewer fouls and a better night taking care of the ball.

"We understand what the keys to our success are and when we don't do them we make the game extremely tough and give the other team life in terms of more possessions," Curry said.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Through the first three games of the season, the Minnesota Timberwolves were not playing the type of defense that head coach Tom Thibodeau wanted to see.

That changed Monday night.

Morris sparks Wizards over Blazers in OT

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) Markieff Morris couldn't believe the Blazers kept leaving him open.

Morris had 28 points, including a career-high six 3-pointers, and the Washington Wizards won their first game of the season with a 125-124 overtime victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night.

Giannis' 31 and 15 help Bucks top Knicks

Middleton sank 7 of 8 3-pointers and finished with 30 points - including two critical 3s down the stretch - as the Bucks held off the New York Knicks 124-113 on Monday night.

Conley has 23 to lift Grizzlies by Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) The Memphis Grizzlies took a page out of their classic playbook, using hard-nosed defense and a controlled pace on offense to top the Utah Jazz.

Mike Conley had 23 points and Marc Gasol finished with 18 points as Memphis earned its first road win of the season, beating the Jazz 92-84 Monday night.

Jordan, Doncic lead Mavericks past Bulls

DALLAS (AP) DeAndre Jordan was a double-double machine before and after he stiffed the Dallas Mavericks in free agency three years ago.

Now that the Texas native finally decided to join the Mavericks, the 6-11 center is up to the same old tricks.

Nuggets F Barton out indefinitely

DENVER (AP) The Denver Nuggets say starting forward Will Barton strained his right hip along with his core and there's no timetable for his return.

Barton was carted off the court Saturday after he said he felt something pop when he took off for the basket during the third quarter of a win over Phoenix. He underwent an MRI on Sunday and missed the Golden State game that night.
